Electrical Discharge Machining Spark Erosion

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is a machining method primarily used for hard metals or those that would be impossible to machine with traditional techniques.

Our CNC EDMs can cut small or odd-shaped angles, intricate contours or cavities in pre-hardened steel without the need for heat treatment to soften and re-harden them as well as exotic metals such as titanium and Inconel®.

One critical limitation, however, is that EDM only works with materials that are electrically conductive, and generally those materials are ferrous alloys.

Wire and Sinker EDM

Hamill has a total of three EDM machines; two sinker types and one wire machine. Our large capacity machines allow us to handle some of the largest work pieces of anyone in the area.

 Charmilles Robofil 640CC

The Charmilles Robofil 640CC is a wire EDM with a five-axis CNC head. It has a max part size of 51.25" x 39.4" x 20.1", a maximum weight of 6,600 pounds, and a max output of 1,200 amps. The machine is capable of not only complicated through work but can also angle a wire up to 45 degrees.
ONA H600

The ONA H600 is a RAM EDM with a three-axis CNC head. It has a max part size of 66.9" x 39.37" x 23.6", a maximum weight of 500 pounds, and max output of 240 amps.

Charmilles Roboform 40

The Charmilles Roboform 40 is also a RAM EDM with a three-axis CNC head. It has a max part size of 39.37" x 27.55" x 14.5", a maximum weight of 200 pounds, and a max output of 128 amps.

Inconel® is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation.
