Precision Welding Quality Craftsmanship

Hamill has the ability to provide the quality and level of precision welding services that few others do. Many of our journeyman welders carry over 20 qualifications, with some being unique to Hamill, and several also hold assoicates degrees.

Our welding engineers develop processes to comply with our customer’s specifications and we can generate the procedures, perform qualifications, and test the qualifications with our in-house resources. Our customers look to us for advice on design and manufacturability and we provide training for engineers and naval officers throughout the United States on techniques required to produce their products.

The weld shop is a clean, climate controlled area equipped with the latest high-end welding machines, positioners, and a host of other specialized equipment to support our fabrication requirements.
Hamill's Welding Engineers develop complete solutions to our customers metal fabrication needs.

We have the resources to develop the weld procedure, design the weld joint geometry, and the requirements of the procedure and performance qualifications.

We perform weld procedure qualifications and welder performance qualifications, as well as, the testing required to validate the results.

Hamill also has an AWS Certified Welding Inspector on staff.

Hamill's welding adheres to the high standards of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Welding Society (AWS) certifications. We also have an AWS Certified Welding Inspector on staff.

ASME Certification
The ASME certification is the best in certification of pressure vessels. Many types of certifications exist that allow a company to produce a manufactured part, but there are no set rules for one standard approach.

ASME certifications eliminate those inconsistencies by focusing on the manufacturing of high-pressure components.

With this comes the ability to trace all components and manufacturing before the part can be approved and put into use.

AWS Certification
By having our welding department qualified in accordance with the AWS, we further ensure that our staff is above the cut of a typical machine shop.

Our welders go through a rigorous education and are tested to the highest of standards to comply with AWS certification.
When Hamill opened its doors in 1952, our first job was with the Navy Nuclear program. Sixty-five years later, we still have a strong business relationship.

The ability to comply with Navy Standards takes a qualified team to excel in processing, procuring, and manufacturing.

We go through a rigorous yearly audit to insure that we are compliant.
Hamill is proud of its crew of highly skilled welders who, in some cases, are among only a handful of people in the world with certain qualifications.

They perform tedious welding methods on materials ranging from a few ounces to over 35,000 lbs. Some materials are so rare that most people know nothing about the material’s ingredients.

Our customers look to us to determine if something is feasible because our combined welding knowledge allows us to choose the appropriate and optimal processes.

Our customers enjoy the benefits of having their requirements defined, their welding procedures generated and their materials identified without having to involve a separate engineering firm.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
Every day we perform high quality GTAW, also commonly known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.

As craftsmen, our welders take pride in their work. Several of our welders are fluent in the complicated automatic TIG method and use it when there are many variables and complicated parameters.

We provide in-house radiographic inspection on all pressure boundary welds and many other weld classifications.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
In conjunction with TIG, we frequently perform the higher deposition rate process of Shielded Metal Arc Welding, often referred to as “stick welding.”

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
We provide Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) to partner with our TIG capabilities. The high quality and high definition rates offered by this process make it ideal for heavy cross sectional weldments.

Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) is used in heavy fabrication, where high deposition and versatility are the keys to success.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
While GMAW, commonly known as Metal Inert Gas (MIG), is not one of our typical welding methods, we  have the capacity to perform this process. We apply our knowledge of ASME standards to this level of welding as well.

Other Related Processes
We have the equipment and capability to perform stud and spot welding.
Hamill's welding operations are used for many applications including:
  • Structural
  • Pressure Vessel
  • Machinery
  • Attachment
  • Tube-to-Tubesheet
  • Seal
  • Consumable Insert
  • Statically Loaded
  • Cyclically Loaded
Hamill's facility features two heat treatment furnaces. Our larger furnace has a working zone of 54" x 34" x 26" with a max temperature of 1,875 degrees, while the smaller furnace features a 24" x 24" x 24" working zone with the capability to handle tmeperatures up to 2,250 degrees. Hamill also provides induction heat treating.
